Health & Safety
The BBP Board and management recognise that health and safety is a leadership issue and it is taken very seriously. BBP is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for its employees, contractors and all people associated with its operations. As the operator of power stations, and with more under construction, BBP recognises that its operations pose a number of safety risks which require high standards of safety management practice.
BBP pursues a vision of ’zero harm’ in the workplace, which embodies a commitment to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of employees, contractors and visitors to all facilities. This vision is underpinned by BBP’s Health & Safety Policy, which focuses on:
- leadership and culture as a key enabler for safe working;
- health and safety management practices that are incorporated into all operations;
- systematically addressing deficiencies and delivering opportunities for ongoing improvement of systems;
- compliance with all occupational health and safety (OH&S) standards; including relevant legislation, codes of practice, Australian standards and industry standards.
In FY2008, BBP had a Lost Time Injury (LTI) frequency rate of 5.21 per million work hours. Of particular note, seven of BBP’s power stations have achieved over four years without an LTI.
BBP’s safety committee has pursued a portfolio program of improvements through peer reviews, employee secondments and the development of a ’Du Pont’ style safety management program to be undertaken by leadership at all levels.
