Employees - Training & Development
BBP aims to attract and retain employees by offering a stimulating and fulfilling workplace. By attracting high quality staff that are committed to contributing to BBP’s success, both BBP as a company and its staff should benefit as a result.
Employees at BBP have the opportunity to develop their skills through specialised training and development programs, apprenticeships and graduate engineering programs and through other forms of study such as business and accounting degrees.
In 2008, BBP established a Graduate Development Program (GDP) to ensure the ongoing development and retention of engineering skills within the business. The GDP provides a framework that facilitates training and development, with a focus on technical, professional and personal development areas. As part of the GDP establishment, BBP entered into a formally recognised agreement with Engineers Australia to ensure alignment with the achievement of Chartered Engineer status.
BBP also supports the Australian Power Academy, with a view to attracting high calibre engineering students to the power industry, and in 2008 funded two new scholarships. The scholarships provide recipients with a bursary/book allowance, funding for university fees and paid industry work experience.
In 2008, BBP’s total number of employees grew to over 700, mainly as a result of the integration of the assets acquired from Alinta in late 2007. Successfully combining the operating systems and workplace cultures of these different businesses was a key focus of management in 2008 and will continue to be throughout 2009.
