Community

As a power generation business with assets spread across Australia and New Zealand, BBP has a significant level of involvement with the local communities in which it operates. The longevity and sustainability of BBP is very much dependent on the strength of its relationships with these communities, and an awareness of the potential impacts it can have at a social, cultural, environmental and economic level.

Community consultation during a BBP power project development is extensive and allows members of the public to become involved during the early stages of a project. Stakeholders include the investment community, employees, contractors, unions, governments, regulators, the media and others. Consultation sessions provide a forum for dialogue between all interested parties, and allow concerns to be raised and then addressed. This level of consultation also continues after the assets become operational, with members of the community consulted on a regular basis, both when specific issues arise and through the normal course of business.

BBP seeks to have a positive and sustainable economic impact on local communities by employing local people wherever possible. The majority of BBP’s assets are located outside metropolitan areas and therefore it is beneficial to both BBP and the communities in which it operates, to have a significant portion of employees established in the region.

Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia (RFDS)

The RFDS, voted Australia’s most trusted charity, provides critical aeromedical
emergency and health care services to 250,000 people each year. It relies on
fundraising initiatives and donations from the community to purchase and
medically equip its aircraft at a cost of around $6 million each. BBP’s Central
Region Operations1 has been a proud community partner of the RFDS for 10
years, providing vital funds to assist in its mission to provide excellence in
aeromedical and primary health care across Australia.

Fremantle Football Club - Community Development Programme

BBP’s retail gas business, Alinta, has been a sponsor of the Fremantle Football
Club since its inception in 1995 and is proud to be both the Official Community
Development Partner and a Platinum Level sponsor of the Club.

Last year a record 550 schools registered for participation in the Community
Development Programme, where Alinta and the Fremantle Dockers ran
school-based clinics to promote the key areas of fun, fitness, friendship and
family. Pictured below is Fremantle Dockers captain, Matthew Pavlich, with
